Founded a century ago, the University of Alberta is one of the top 100 teaching and research universities in the world serving more than 36,000 students with 11,000 faculty and staff.
The first University of Alberta degrees were awarded in 1912. There are currently more than 200,000 living University alumni worldwide.
The University of Alberta main campus is complemented by a French-language campus (pictured), a downtown location, a rural liberal-arts campus, and a South campus.
Downtown Edmonton is the center of business within the city. Areas within downtown include the Commercial Core, the Arts District, Rice Howard Way Pedestrian Mall, MacKay Avenue, Jasper-West, the Warehouse District, and the Government Precinct.
The University of Alberta main campus covers about 50 city blocks and is located just south of the downtown Edmonton core. The city of Edmonton is very spread out, but the university's central location makes it easily accessible by public transport.
